July has always been the month when I try to slow down. In the middle of wedding season, between celebrations, editing, planning and travelling, I find myself looking for quieter moments.

Long walks through the forest, cold swims in the river and evenings spent with the people I love somehow help me reconnect with the reason I picked up a camera in the first place.

People often assume photographers love cameras. The truth is, I've never really been interested in cameras. I've always been interested in people.

The way two people look at each other when nobody else notices. The laughter that wasn't planned. The tears that appear without warning. The stories that quietly unfold between all the big moments.

Those are the memories I hope people carry with them long after the wedding day has passed.

A thought

A few months ago, I found myself thinking about something I hadn't really questioned so strongly before.

For more than ten years I've photographed some of the happiest days in people's lives. Weddings, families and women celebrating who they are. I've always loved delivering a beautiful online gallery, knowing my clients would relive those moments again and again.

But one afternoon I asked myself a simple question.

What really happens after the gallery is delivered?

We all carry thousands of photographs in our phones today. Three thousand. Five thousand. Sometimes ten thousand or even more. Yet most of them slowly disappear beneath new memories, new holidays and everyday life.

The photographs are still there.

We just stop seeing them.

An invitation

The more I thought about it, the more I realised that perhaps my work wasn't actually finished when I pressed "Deliver Gallery." Perhaps that had always been the beginning of the final chapter.

The photographs that become part of our lives are rarely the ones hidden inside a folder on a hard drive. They're the album that sits on the bookshelf waiting to be opened on anniversaries. They're the framed photograph in the hallway that quietly reminds you of someone you love every time you walk past it.

Those are the photographs that become part of a family's history, and that thought has stayed with me for a long time. Eventually it became something I couldn't stop thinking about.

It became Memory Design™. The last part of my workflow as a photographer.

Memory Design™ isn't really about albums. And it isn't really about wall art either. Those are simply the way we give memories a place to live.

For me, Memory Design™ is a personal experience where we together decide which photographs deserve to become part of everyday life. Together we design handcrafted albums, timeless wall art and beautiful prints that don't simply decorate a house, they tell the story of the people who live there.
